The leader of the Republican Party in the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy , expressed confidence that the Republicans will regain control of the House of Representatives.
Currently, both houses of Congress are controlled by Democrats. They hold 220 seats in parliament, the Republicans – 212. To get a majority, the party must have 218 seats.
Biography
Kevin McCarthy was born on January 26, 1965 in Bakersfield, California. His father worked as an assistant chief of the city fire department, and his mother was a housewife.
McCarthy attended California State University. He received a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1989 and an MBA in 1994.
In 1995, McCarthy became chairman of the California Young Republicans. From 1999 to 2001 he was chairman of the National Republican Youth Federation.
In 2002, McCarthy was elected to the California State Assembly. In 2003, he became leader of the Republican Party. He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2006. In his constituency, McCarthy won 70.7% of the vote. In 2008, he won the re-election, and in 2010 he was elected for a third term, gaining 98.8% of the vote. In 2012, McCarthy won a fourth term with 73.2% of the vote. In 2014, he was able to win again, receiving 74.8% of the vote. McCarthy has been re-elected in 2016, 2018 and 2020.
McCarthy is a principled conservative who firmly believes that Americans must defend the founding ideals of the nation. According to him, in case of victory, the Republicans will first of all focus on solving the country’s internal problems, in particular, on the fight against illegal immigration, and will also launch the impeachment process of President Joe Biden.. McCarthy also promised to tighten control over the allocation of aid to Kyiv. Spending cuts will be a top Republican priority if they gain control of the House of Representatives, McCarthy said. During his tenure in the leadership of the House of Representatives, annual federal spending was cut for the first time since the Korean War. In 2015, Republicans pushed through the first welfare reform in decades, saving taxpayers more than $2.9 trillion.
McCarthy is married to his high school sweetheart Judy . They live in a house in Bakersfield where they raised their two children, Connor and Megan.
