China has lifted an unofficial ban on Marvel Studios films and set release dates for two new films, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania. It is reported by Variety.
The premieres of both projects will take place in February. Marvel films will be shown in China for the first time since 2019, when Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home were shown on the screens of Chinese cinemas.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, China has often denied Disney projects a rental license. The reasons for this decision were not explained.
In November 2022, it became known that the distribution of new Marvel and DC projects in China was in jeopardy. It was about the films “Black Adam” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. It was assumed that Black Panther might not be shown because of the LGBT heroines. At the same time, the first part of the tape, released in 2018, collected $ 105 million in the country.
The ban on the screening of “Black Adam” may be due to the fact that Pierce Brosnan starred in the film . Two years ago, the actor posted a joint photo on social networks with the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, who is considered a separatist by the Chinese authorities.
